Infrastructural Decay: Ojobo Indigene Writes Otuaro, Wants Youths Empowerment

A concerned citizen of Ojobo community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. John Perekpo has appealed to the Deputy Governor Barr. Kingsley Otuaro to prevail on the State Governor to come to the aid of the community.
The plea was contained in an open letter addressed to the deputy governor, a copy of which was obtained by The Liberator Newspaper on Friday.
Perekpo said that he addressed his letter to the Deputy governor because he is the highest political office holder of Ijaw extraction in the state government.
According to him, Ojobo community is in dire need of infrastructural and human capital development.
He lamented that development has over the years eluded Ojobo despite being an oil producing community.
One of the areas he specifically called for governments attention is road infrastructure, he stated that “roads plays a vital role in the opening up/development of a place.
“Last year we were told that the delta state government had awarded the construction of Torugbene-Ojobo road. But till this moment there is no sign of work going on.” He said.
Another area he wants the government to look into is Skills acquisition, he noted that “Ojobo skill acquisition center awarded by DESOPADEC had been abandoned over eight years, this project which would have help our youths to be meaningfully engaged had been abandoned for no reason.”
He also pleaded that “one technical college should be cited at Ojobo. This according to him “will help other communities around that area who might find it difficult to attend any other in the upland.
The Ojobo concerned native also disclosed that “Both the secondary school and primary school buildings in the community are dilapidated and begging for urgent attention.
On the area of health care, He said “Ojobo general hospital is the only government hospital around that creek for the benefit of the less privileged who cannot afford private clinic bills. This hospital has no medical facilities needed as general hospital.”
“The security situation had recently been very bad in the community. From June to July, two people had been kidnapped and released for ransom. First was the only medical doctor in the general hospital. Second, one Matthew Chinenye an Igbo businessman who had been doing business in the community for decades. We thank God both of them were not hurt physically.”
He pleaded for the citing of a police station in the community to help provide security to lives and properties.
He also said that the visible infrastructural deficiency is not only particular to Ojobo community but other riverine Ijaw communities where primary and secondary school buildings are wearing bad look, with no portable water to drink, a situation where able body youths who are willing to work yet cannot find employment
