International Day Of Peace 2020: Peace Must Never Be Taken For Granted – DSYP

The Delta State Youth Parliament has called for all especially the youths to always embrace peace as it is a necessity for continued unity and progress.
Speaking at a virtual conference in commemoration of the International Peace Day, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ohwoekevwo George called on all youths of Delta State and beyond to  always embrace peace and never take it for granted. In his words, he stated that no individual, family, group, society or nation has ever made any tangible progress in the absence of peace.
While the current rate of insecurity, incessant killings and continued acts of terrorism which has brought about loss of lives, properties and has displaced many families calls for worry, it is important to note that we can all shape peace together. 
He commended his Excellency, the Peace loving Smart Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in whose administration the state has witnessed palpable peace and progress. He also commended the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chief Sherrif Oborovwori for ensuring a peaceful relationship between the legislative and executive arm of government which  is evident in the state. 
The Speaker also lauded the United Nations for their continued efforts towards ensuring global peace especially the UN Youth Envoy for her contributions towards uniting youths. According to him, the theme of this year’s celebration which is _Shaping Peace Together_ was carefully selected bearing in mind that we can only have and sustain peace when we see it as a collective decision. 
When contacted, the chairman house committee on peace and security in the Delta State Youth Parliament, Hon. Japhet Bondonyefa representing Burutu II constituency stated that he was pleased with the present state of peace in the state and urged everyone especially the youths to sustain this peace. He said, it is worthy of note that the Delta State Youth Parliament under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Ohwoekevwo George would ensure that peace is not negotiated by their youth constituents and commended the commissioner of youths Comr. Ifeanyi Egwuyenga whom he described as a reflection of his Excellency’s choice for nothing less than excellence.
