Publisher/Editor-In-Chief of Coastal Times, a rising online Newspaper, Comr. Abraye Freeborn has cautioned the Nigerian Military to be professional and fair to the Ijaw people living in the Niger Delta region.
Comr. Abraye made the call on Wednesday 19th of February 2020 in Warri via a statement issued to newsmen, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

Abraye issued the release following the invasion of Letugbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by the Nigerian military recently which saw the burning down of houses and other activities which according to him had precipitated untold hardship to the people.

Comrade Freeborn, who is also a Niger Delta human rights activist expressed his displeasure over the way and manner at which the military always responds to attacks carried out on the military by miscreants in the region.

In his words: “In as much as we condemn in its entirety, the ungodly act of sea pirates, who have been terrorizing our rivers, and engaging in gun battles with the military. In some cases, leaving the military with some officers been killed. We also want to appeal to the Nigerian Military to employ adequate professionalism in the discharge of their duties. As many at times, it is the poor and innocent civilians within those areas, that suffer the brunt of the whole thing.

“Yes, the military has every right to manhunt those bastards who have deliberately decided not to allow peace reign in the region. But still, the act of the military, generalizing the consequences of the unholy actions of the pirates and other criminal elements in the region, is quite unfair.

“So it is my humble appeal to the Nigerian Military, to be diplomatic, and apply a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their national duties. So that, the cases of invading and burning down of a whole community, just because of the ungodly actions of some bad bloods in the community or area is minimized, if not totally eliminated”.
