Immediate release

Egbemene Island Inferno (Fenigbene Community) in Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom: IYC urges Gov. Okowa, DESOPADEC to provide relief materials

…We are not happy with the state government’s lack of concern, sympathize victims

Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone, has urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) to provide relief materials, which he said will remedy the challenges the victims of the fire inferno, at Egbemene Island (Fenigbene Community) in Ogbe-Warri Kingdom, Warri South West LGA, had gone through for the past two weeks.

The IYC is not happy with the state government for abandoning the affected persons to their fate without relief materials. Sympathizing the victims of the fire inferno, Dr Okotete urged the affected persons to be strong and hopeful, while tasking Ahmed Mustapha Habib, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to also provide relief materials, which he notes will ameliorate the suffering, the people of Egbemene Island have been subject to, for the past two weeks.

He said: “The incident beckons for an urgent attention of the the state government towards emergency intervention by providing succor to the affected persons who are now living in critical condition at various temporary shelters among their relatives such as occupying  primary school buildings and churches. It is disheartening if not despicable to note that after two weeks of this incident, the Delta State Government, and other parastatals have yet to show concern to the unbearable agony the affected persons are. Council is therefore not happy with the lack of response from the state government whose main purpose is to take care of the people.

“Our people are going through unbearable hardship. Hence, we urge Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, DESOPADEC and NEMA to urgently provide relief materials which would go a long way to mitigate the effect of what the affected persons are going through.
