IYC crises: Stakeholders reconcile factions, to hold national convention February – The Liberator

After what seemed like eternity, the leadership crises that had engulfed the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide has been brought under control with a call on stakeholders to desist henceforth from acts capable of bringing the revered youth body to disrepute again.

This was sequel to a stakeholders meeting conveyed on Monday in Warri Delta State by the David Otutufegha led Western Zone Peace Committee which was well attended by major actors in IYC both at the national and zonal level.

There have been leadership crises rocking the apex Ijaw youth body which led to the factionalization of the council at both national and zonal level.

The ugly development prompted the intervention of patriotic minds from the western zone who have been appealing for calm and reaching out to key players involved in the dispute and eventually secured the understanding and commitment of both parties to work together and jointly called a stakeholders meeting of the Western Zone IYC.

The deliberation at the meeting was a robust one with stakeholders appreciating the efforts of Barr. David Otutufegha and his team in collaboration with other leaders at the national level to facilitate the meeting.

At the end of the deliberations, stakeholders appreciated the resolve of the national leaders to jettison the divisions in council and work together towards a unity transition process to the next National Executive Committee of the IYC.

Stakeholders in the well attended meeting had called on all parties to sheath their swords and embrace this new dawn in the council and work with leaders of the council to strengthen unity for the collective good of Ijaw Nation.

It was also agreed that the national leaders should jointly call a National Convention on Thursday February 20, 2020 at Sagbama town in Bayelsa State to inaugurate the Electoral Committee to start the transition process.

In the spirit of peace, unity and reconciliation, stakeholders also adopt the method agreed at the meeting of leaders for the selection of the two members of the Electoral Committee from Western Zone and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, having in mind the need for all inclusiveness of the three states making up the zone.

Stakeholders at the meeting also commended the effort of Chief A. K. Horsefall, amd High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), the Ijaw Elders Forum, Lagos Branch and all other leaders who worked towards the achievement of the reconciliation between the two factions at the national level.

In attendance at the meeting were some National Leaders comprising Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotuubo and Barr. Eric Omare, Zonal Leaders include Chief Frank Akiefa, Comr. Eric Kpemi, Snr. Comr. Ebi M. Wonzu and Comr Doubra C. Okotete, Parliamentarians led by Deputy Speaker, Comr. Bob Collins Igetei, Comr. Destiny Perowari, Comr (Hon) Razak Amatoru, Comr. Fred Afoegba, Franklin Magada, Chief Ben Bowei, former Chairmen: Comr. Pamotei Waresuotei, Comr Freedom Atigbi and several others.
