Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Clan Chairmen in Western Zone have vowed to reject and boycott the forthcoming national election if the Electoral Committee headed by Barr. Bekewei Ajuwa and the zonal leaderships tries to manipulate the delegate list against them.
The Western Zone IYC Clan Chairmen Forum made their position known to newsmen in Warri yesterday after closing from an emergency meeting of all the clan chairmen in the zone.
Addressing the media shortly after the meeting, Chairman of all chairmen in Western Zone, Comr. Fuludu Mienkebena Thompson speaking on behalf of all the 23 clan chairmen in the zone noted that the emergency meeting has become necessary to correct some surreptitious perceived moves by members of the Electoral Committee and the Zonal leaderships.
Speaking further on the issue, Comr. Fuludu said they have hint that the Eleco and Zonal leaderships in Western Zone is working hard to change and manipulate the delegate list to remove names of some clan chairmen who are delegates from their clans.
Comr. Fuludu had warned that such should just be a mere rumour otherwise they may take actions that will not go down well with leaders in council, stressing that Barr. Ajuwa and his people should suspend their plans if they are thinking along this direction as they will not relax over the matter.
However, the clan chairmen said while they are not joining issues with anyone, the Eleco and Zonal leaderships must be seen to be doing the right thing by ensuring that all clans in the zone that have duely called for congresses and nominated delegates must be seen to reflect on the long delayed delegate list.
He maintained that they are aware that in some clans after the clan congresses presided over by the chairmen, delegates where nominated during the congresses and not all of them were Clan Chairmen as they are not having any issue with that.
Mr. Fuludu continued that the only issue that will rock council now is if these group of people try to remove names of any clan chairman in the zone after being nominated as delegate from his clan.
They had however, reiterated calls for the immediate publication of the delegates list.
