Jubilation As Ikeogwu Defeats Churchill To Retain Delta NUJ Chairmanship For The Second Time

The Delta State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta Council on Tuesday conducted their election to decide new leadership that would pilot the affairs of the union for another 3 years in labour house, Asaba, the state capital. The Liberator Newspapers can report.
The chairman elect, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu defeated his former secretary, Comrade Churchill Oyowe with four votes.
However, while Comrade Ikeogwu scored 206 votes to emerge the council chairman, his former secretary and opponent, Comrade Churchill Oyowe scored 202 votes out of the 408 delegates that participated in the exercise.
Other elected officers include Comrade Salvation Ogono who scored 232 votes to defeat his opponent, Comrade Victor Sorokwu to emerge vice chairman of the council. Comrade Patrick Ochei scored 246 votes to emerge secretary, Comrade Felix Ekwu scored 216 votes to emerge assistant secretary, Comrade Celestine Afokoba scored 209 votes to emerge auditor.
Others who lost out of the Delta 2020 election are: Comrade Victor Sorokwu, who contested for the position of vice chairman scored 176 votes, Comrade Toju Teri, contested for secretary scored 160 votes, Comrade Thelma Ellogu, contested for assistant secretary scored 192 votes, and Comrade Balogun Mabamije, contested for auditor with 191 votes.
Meanwhile, addressing the press after the election, Comr. Michael Ikeogwu had appreciated all members of the Delta State NUJ for their show of love, stressing that his government will continue to operate an open door policy by carrying everyone along.
He stated that his re-election is no doubt a call to duty as he will continue to always advance and prioritize the interests of Journalists in the state, adding that better days are here.
He particularly vowed that he will not joke with the confidence reposed on him by the journalists, maintaining that he will work hard not to dissapoint members of the union.
Speaking further at the Labour House in Asaba, NTA Road where the election was conducted peacefully with observers and security agents, the Delta State NUJ Chairman described the election and his victory as no victor no vanquished.
