According to reports reaching the News Desk of The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide, there is currently an onging massive  protest rocking the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) by Students from the Oil Producing Areas in Delta State over the non payment of their bursaries.

As at the time of filing this report, the students in their numbers have overtaken the ever busy Warri-Sapele Road, leading to the Commission’s main office, thereby causing heavy gridlock along the road.

A student who hinted The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide on phone regarding the protest but pleaded not to be mentioned in print had maintained that they would not back out from the protest until something reasonable is done to address the plight of the students.

Our source had particularly called on His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on DESOPADEC to urgently pay them the bursary before the protest would escalate to something else, stressing that enough is enough.

However, the student had accused the Managing Director (MD ) of the Commission, Chief Hon. Askia Ogieh for not doing enough towards the payment of the bursary, stressing that his leadership in DESOPADEC is becoming questionable and has failed to  address issues regarding the bursary payment.

Meanwhile, they continued that a comprehensive statement about DESOPADEC as a commission and how Askia had over time acted as a stumbling bloc towards the payment of the bursary is loading, stressing that since dialogue will not yield any positive result, they would opt out for another option, adding that the protest will soon take another dimension.

Nevertheless, in our bid to balance this report, a call was put across to DESOPADEC, a source who pleaded anonymity told The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide that the issue will be addressed as soon as possible, stressing that during the PDP  primary elections in Delta State, some officials of the commission resigned to contest hence in the process created a lacuna in the leadership of the commissioner.

The source continued that with the reappointment and inauguration of the other members of the board, he  added that soon enough the issue will be addressed.
