Lamentations As Heavy Derecho Rainstorm Destroys Buildings In Burutu, Causing Panic

No fewer than two houses and property worth millions of naira were destroyed by rainstorm in Burutu Community, headquarters of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta  State.

It was learnt that the rain, which started on Sunday morning in the night lasted till dawn, it was accompanied by a heavy derecho rainstorm which wrecked havoc on two important buildings in the  Community.

Speaking to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide earlier today, Comr. Hermann Ekisah, Chairman of Burutu Community asserted that the rainstorm had completely destroyed the pavilion, a large building used to host several political and marriage events, adding that portions of the pavilion fence  were destroyed as well.

Comr. Ekisah continued that after totally destroying the pavilion, the roof of the pavilion was blown by the storm to the newly upgraded Burutu Area command office building, destroying a small portion of the Area Command Office roof.Recounting some other damaged properties, the Burutu Community Chairman stated that some electric polls, roofs of the NPA buildings were touched as occupants were under the rain while other residents lives in panic throughout the night.

Speaking further, Ekisah asserted that the rain have really subjected residents of the community particularly those affected by the rainstorm to untold hardship as their valuables have been drenched by the rain. 

However, the community Chairman while calling on the Delta State Government and other representatives across the Local Government and beyond to do something positive about the pathetic situation faced by his people, he maintained that the pavilion as a Government property has been used severally to host the Governor and other top government functionaries, adding that a quick rebuilding of the pavilion will make sense. 

Nevertheless, there are indications that Hon. Godknows Angele, Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council is activating plans to go to Burutu for on the spot assessment to see the level of damage done in the community by the storm. 

Meanwhile, Comr. Hermann had stated that the community will draft security men to the damaged properties, particularly the pavilion and the Area Command Office to protect the properties to prevent people from carting away with some of the properties.

He noted that the security men will be there to safeguard the properties until government officials will come for inspection and probably take over the situation.
