Looming Extinction Of Communities In Ogulagha Kingdom, IYC Task FG, Others For Rescue
The Ijaw Youth Council in oil rich Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has berated the Federal Government of Nigeria, Multinational oil companies operating in the Kingdom, Niger Delta Development Commission, Niger Delta Ministry as well as other relevant agencies for neglecting the plight of the people despite communities in the Kingdom facing looming extinction.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Ogulagha Kingdom gave the charge via a statement jointly signed by the duo of Comr. Samuel Ebiarede Uyadongha, Chairman IYC Ogulagha Kingdom and Comr. Keneware Emmanuel, Information Officer, IYC Ogulagha Kingdom, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide yesterday.
The statement had particularly expressed worry that despite Ogulagha Kingdom adjudged as one of the highest producers of Oil in Nigeria, stressing that many decades have passed but the story and the proper development of Ogulagha Kingdom remains nothing to write home about.
The duo of Samuel and Keneware noted that the IYC has watched with dismay the rapid wearing away of Communities in the Kingdom (particularly Obuguru, Abarabebe communities and the Ogulagha cementary ) as a result of the surging ocean tides, accusing the Federal Government of Nigeria, Multinational oil companies and all relevant agencies in Nigeria to have over the years neglected the issue of the eroding communities in Ogulagha Kingdom.
The statement continued that Ogulagha Kingdom is host to over 200 oil wells, Forcados Terminal, North Bank Flowstation, North Bank Gas station, South Bank Flowstation, Yokiri Flowstation, Beniboye Flowstation and others.
They continued that the kingdom is also a host to multinational oil companies such as Shell, Chevron, Agip, Brittiana-U and several other contracting companies.
“We can’t give out this much and not receive in same measure or even more.The Nigerian Government should not value the crude oil more than the people whose land it is being produced.
“The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC in Ogulagha Kingdom frowned at the obvious wearing away of our communities by erosion of the ocean tides and the silence of the government.
“We hereby call on the federal government of Nigeria, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and other relevant agencies to come to our plight by constructing shore protection to safeguard our Communities from being eroded by the surging ocean tides.” The statement added.
