The Chairman, governing council of Delta State School of Maritime Technology, DESOMATECH, Burutu Chief J. T Government recently played host to the leadership of National Association of Burutu Local Government Students, NAGBLOGS .
The student body, led by its national President Comr.Samson Azigbeotu met with Government in his Ughelli country home.
Speaking during the meeting, Azigbeotu said they were on the courtesy visit to familiarize and congratulate the board chairman on his appointment as well as brainstorm on sundry issues as it affects DESOMATECH and the students of Burutu origin.
While congratulating Government on his appointment, Azigbeotu said the appointment was a well deserving one considering that he posses the needed political and intellectual capacity to drive development in the institution.
He identified infrastructural dilapidation and decay, poor patronage by leaders and parents of Ijaw Origin as well as shortchange of Burutu indigenes in the employment of academic staff as some of the issues that must be looked into with all sense of seriousness if the only institution of higher learning in Burutu Local Government will develop.
The student leader noted that more worrisome is the failure of Ijaw leaders and Parents to see the unique opportunities that abounds in the school, saying that a situation whereby the population of non-indigene staff and students far out numbers the indigenes is an aberration.
He also use the medium to inform their host that the association will hold a one day symposium soon and selected speakers from various institutions of learning across the country will be speaking on factors militating against education in the creeks.
He said that the declining state of education in the creek is really a course to worry about because the children in the creek have been denied access to quality education, promising that him and his team have resolved to rise to the occasion and help address the issue.
In his reaction, Government appreciated the students for finding time to visit him and for their commitment towards addressing education challenges in DESOMATECH and Burutu Local Government.
He promised to partner and render any form of assistance whenever the need arises and charged them not to be discouraged in their quest for a quality education in the creek.
He prayed God to guide them alright and provide them with every support needed to achieve their goals.
