A chieftain of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State His Excellency, Amb. Dr. Alapala Ebitonmo Anthony has decried attempt by some stakeholders in the party to impose candidates in the forth coming party congress, stressing that if the matter is not properly handled it may dovetailed to the formation of parallel PDP executives in the Local Government Area.

Alapala, who is a major stakeholder in Burutu Local Government Area and former aspirant for House of Assembly in Burutu North, under the PDP said such attempts to hijack the party structure by some group under whatever guise is unacceptable.

He advised those involved to have a rethink and desist from such move that will thereafter plunge the party into unnecessary litigation that will be detrimental to the progress of the party in the Local Government Area.

He recalled how some leaders of the party in Burutu strangulated his political ambition in 2016 when he contested for the position of party chairman on the pretext that he is on the camp of Hon Funkekeme Solomon.

In his words: “I contested the PDP party Chairmanship in 2016 and spent over eleven million naira on my campaign and consultations across Burutu and the Delta State PDP leadership at large while we were waiting to go to the field for proper congress on May 15th 2016 a word came from the leadership of Burutu on May 4th headed by the then Chief of Staff that myself and Francis Bomiebi has been disqualified from the race.

“At that point, I stood up and asked why, he said because am from Funkekeme’s group and that Bomiebi is from his group and that two of us are the contenders with all manners of lies, and I personally allowed them to have their way because the Governor’s name was involved which the Governor refuted later when I met him.”

He regretted that ”the same people have started again with the Governors name that status quo should remain the same “.

Recalled that the leadership of the PDP has approved 7th March 2020 for congresses to hold across the 774 Local government and various wards in Nigeria to elect new party executives.
