Treasurer of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Western Zone, Comr. Abednigo Opere who hails from Arogbo Kingdom in Ondo State has opened up on a purported move to create Akure Chapter of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) by certain persons in the state.

The Western Zone Treasurer while hinting The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide on the development had maintained that no one can dare to create a chapter in IYC without due process, stressing that the move is nothing  but a jamboree as himself and other leaders in the state are on top of the matter.

Opere said the Ijaw Youth Council is a body governed by a constitution guiding its affairs, adding that it is clearly stated in the constitution  that it recognises only Lagos, Abuja chapters and diaspora chapters hence no chapter can just spring up just like that without following constitutional provisions.

He said a new chapter can only be created after it must have been deliberated and agreed upon in a national convention as well as inserted into the IYC constitution in full compliance with all relevant processes before it can be created.

Speaking further, Comr. Abednigo noted that if due process is followed by consulting critical stakeholders in council on the need to create the Akure Chapter of IYC, he will also back the move.

According to him, he will back the creation of Akure Chapter of IYC due to the fact that IYC is not recognised in anyway by the Ondo State Government, stressing that while the Government takes care of other youths organisations in the state, the story of IYC is different, noting that on several occasions, when they confront authorities in the state, they would say the IYC should organised themselves in the state.

Opere stressed that creating an Akure Chapter of IYC will no doubt give more credence to the IYC in the state as the Ijaw Youths are losing out in the state, adding that such move to establish the Akure Chapter should be done within the ambit of the Ijaw Youths Council Constitution.

Meanwhile, he particularly faulted those fronting the move for not following due process, describing the move as a right move done in a wrong way, advising the initiators of the move to stop parading themselves in such manner without following due process.

Nevertheless, he had admonished the frontiers of the Akure IYC Chapter to retrace their steps by sinking deep for prosper consultation on the matter and not going to the public in trying to engage authorities without putting things in a proper perspective.
