For accusing the Delta State commissioner for oil and gas, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba of ethnic bigotry, Niger Delta based peace and youth participation advocate Amb Young Piero has come under fire.

A right group, Centre for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade (CHURAC) through a press statement signed by it’s Publicity Secretary Oyinkedi Fuofegha issued to news men on Thursday a copy of which was sent to the Liberator Newspapers berated Piero for levelling false accusations against the commissioner.

Piero had on Thursday made public statements in which he accused the commissioner of playing the ethnic card against Chevron Itsekiri host communities in Warri South and Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State

In their reaction, CHURAC describe the allegation as false, unfounded, baseless and malicious with an intent to mislead gullible members of the public.

The group said the accuser was merely chasing shadow which will end up in futility.

They noted that the falsehood propagated by Piero and his sponsors  is a  calculated attempt to demean “the towering image of the Honourable Commissioner whose detribalized dispositions are known all over the State.

The group maintained that the deliberate attempt to drag the name of the Commissioner whose painstaking efforts have brought relative peace between the oil companies and the host communities in the mud will not succeed.

They stated that prior to his appointment as Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Amgbaduba was “elected as the Chairman, PDP Delta South Senatorial district at the Ijaw, Isoko and the Itsekiri ethnic groups that  made up the Delta South Senatorial District” saying everyone can attest to the irrefutable fact that Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba is not an ethnic bigot.”

They said “Since he was appointed as the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, we can boldly say without holding brief for him that the host communities and the oil companies’ skirmishes have been reduced to a baring minimum thereby bringing stability in the oil and gas sector. He has being diligently doing his work as a go between the the host communities and the oil companies without ethnic bounds.”

The group said that it is regrettable that Piero chose “to carry out a smear campaign against the innocent man without finding out the efforts of the Honourable Commissioner in resolving the crisis between Chevron Nigeria Ltd and its host communities in Warri South West LGA in respect of the oil spillage.”

CHURAC said “If Amb. Young Piero is really an advocate of youth participation in good governance then he should stop blackmailing the Honourable Commissioner. We implore him to join hand with Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba to resolve the issues in the LGA. Mr. Piero as an acclaimed ambassador, should be seen as a symbol of peace and not one that ferment strife in the LGA.”

“The Honourable Commissioner whose efforts have stabilised peace in the oil sector cannot be distracted by the cheap propaganda of Young Amb Young Piero. Deltans know that the Ministry of Oil and Gas which Chief Amgbaduba presides is promoting ethnic cohesion among the host communities to the oil companies in the State.” They added.
