SPDC Dangerous Chemicals: Obotobo 1, 2 Communities Cries Out, Wants Swift Intervention – The Liberator

As the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC continue to splash acidic chemicals into the waterways of communities in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, the people of Obotobo 1 and 2 communities have cried out to the Delta State Government to address the situation before it gets out of hand.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Warri earlier today, signed by the duo of Double Chief Felix Ebah, chairman Obotobo 1 community and his counterpart Engr. Johnson Gbenewei, chairman Obotobo 2 community, all in Oil producing Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The community leaders had stated that the waterways of Obotobo 1 & 2 communities have recently become a den of dead and floating fishes owing to the acidic chemicals thrown into the river steadily by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.
They insisted that fishing remains the only visible source of livelihood to the people and the massive killing of the aquatic bodies from the deadly chemical sprankled by SPDC keeps members of the communities wondering on the strange happenings.

Chief Ebah and Engr. Johnson said there are lots of implications surrounding the said acts, ranging from health, environmental, destruction of the livelihood of the people and a threat to life.

The statement insisted that SPDC must stop whatever toxic acid they are spreading in the river pending proper discussion with community authorities.

Similarly, the people of Sokebolou and Yokiri federated communities have also called for swift intervention of the Delta State Government and other critical stakeholders in the Kingdom to put to rest the life threatening development.
