Youths of Odimodi Community in Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have called on the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Forcados Terminal, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State to urgently recall both indigenes of Ogulagha and Odimodi Community based  workers that was allegedly suspended due to Covid-19 in 2020.

This was contained in a statement personally signed and issued to newsmen in Warri yesterday by Comr. Akin Disi, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide.

Comr. Akin Disi had particularly praised the role played by His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, His Deputy, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro and Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Delta State in calming fray nerves.

Disi said while the youths would continue to tow the line of peace, it warned that SPDC must not fail in implementing the decision reached between the Government, SPDC and the suspended workers to recall the said workers in November 2021, stressing that the Delta State Government has done a lot.

The statement reads below:

ODIMODI YOUTH MOVEMENT HAILS SENATOR DR. IFEANYI ARTHUR OKOWA, HIS DEPUTY BARRISTER KINGSLEY BURUTU OTUARO,AND CHIEF EMMANUEL AGBADUBA COMMISSIONER FOR OIL AND GAS AND URGES SPDC TO CALL BACK HER SUSPENDED WORKERS DUE TO COVID IN 2020

The ODIMODI YOUTH MOVEMENT President Comrade Akin Disi thanked The governor of Delta State Senator Dr. IFEANYI OKOWA,  his deputy Barrister Kingsley OTUARO and the Commissioner of Oil and Gas Chief Emmanuel AGBADUBA for interfacing between SPDC and her Host communities over the suspension of Ogulagha and ODIMODI communities workers due to COVID in 2020. Senator Dr IFEANYI OKOWA did a good job by ensuring that there is absolute peace and rest in both Ogulagha and ODIMODI communities.

The OKOWA led government is indeed a people oriented government. His deputy Barrister Kingsley BURUTU OTUARO and the Commissioner of Oil and gas Chief Emmanuel AGBADUBA has worked tirelessly to ensure the suspended workers don’t destroy Oil and Gas facilities. They have shown good leadership character and qualities by ensuring that the suspended workers don’t cry fowl by making sure they are well taken care of every month end as a responsible government.

The SHELL PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY (SPDC) has not done well to commensurate the input and effort of the Delta State government. I was expecting the suspended workers to have resumed work before now based on the promise of SPDC to Delta State government. The COVID Era is gradually fading away. The price of crude has also improved yet SPDC is paying lip service and acting blind.

Am using this medium as the President of ODIMODI youth movement (OYM) to remind and urge SPDC  to quickly call back her suspended workers. As youths, we have decided to join hands with the Delta State government  to tow the path of peace. We don’t want to destroy any OIL AND GAS facilities in our lands. We don’t want Oil spillage and environmental pollution. We respect the voice of our fathers Barrister Kingsley OTUARO and Chief Emmanuel Agbaduba in maintaining Peace and Order. This is the best we can do now.

SPDC should do the needful now. Don’t allow the peace orchestrated by his excellency senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to die a natural death. Don’t make us hostile again. Disobeying and dishonouring the voice of our fathers will be a slap on our faces. We don’t want that to happen.

SPDC should stop playing politics with host communities. Portharcourt and Bonny Terminal indigenes have all resumed work. Why is Ogulagha and ODIMODI case different.

SPDC should call back the workers now. This is the right time. No more procrastination because the given three months  will end in November 2021. A responsible company will shield the pains of her community workers. SPDC do  the needful now.
