WARRI: SAF Clean Up Efferun Market To Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr 2022 Day

While marking the Martin Luther King Jr Day 2022  in Nigeria, a leading Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), operating under the aegis of Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF) earlier today embarked on a community cleaning exercise in Delta State. 

With a coalition of several Non Governmental Organisations, civil society groups as well as individuals around the country that filled out in their numbers to show solidarity to the Shedrack Agediga Foundation, they stormed the popular Efferun Market in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State to clean up the market. 

However, with handgloves, head pans, sacks for dirts, rakes and wheelbarrows, the volunteers combed all nook and cranny of the market to keep it clean for hours with a truck that is standby to convey and dispose the wastes and dirts.

However, The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report that as early as 7:am today, members of SAF and a coalition of other groups have gathered at the Tegaton Hotel in Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State before embarking to Effurun Market by 7: 30am for the clean up exercise. 

The clean up exercise commenced by 7: 57am to 11: 15 am before disembarking to Tegaton Hotel in Jakpa Road for refreshment before everyone departed to their various homes. 

Earlier in his speech while addressing the press at the market, Amb. Dr. Comr. Shedrack Agediga, Chairman of the Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF) and current Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC ), he stated that the 2022 theme for Martin Luther King Jr is “Creating A Beloved Community Begins With Me”.

According to him, since the theme centres around community service, the SAF boss asserted that coming to Effurun Market is key, stressing that the foundation has been carrying out other activities in previous years to commemorate the day. 

He particularly charged all the marketers to ensure that they keep their shops and trading outlets clean during and after selling for the day, adding that cleanliness is next to Godliness. 

Speaking further, Agediga had also called on authorities in Effurun to put up measures in place to control the level of proliferating wastes and dirts littering around the market, adding that it is not hygienic in any way. 

However, on his part, Mr. Isaac Itobi, Task Force Chairman on environment and traffic control, Uvwie Local Government Area have lauded Amb. Dr. Shedrack Agediga and members of SAF for the exercise, stressing that Uvwie Local Government Council is happy for the gesture, stressing that the council will take stringent steps to fine anyone who violates the law by throwing dirts indiscriminately on the road side. 

According to him, the fine is Hundred Thousand Naira (#100,000,00) or such defaulter will be in imprisoned for six months, adding that the council will ensure that the law is enforced. 

On her part, Mrs. Omoshola Bemigho, a representative from Delta State Ministry Of Environment applauded the Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF) for a job well done, stressing that other highly placed personalities and NGOs should emulate SAF.

Mulade commends Agediga, calls on South-South Governors to support Wike on environmental pollution in Niger Delta 

Founder and the generalissimo of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Chief Amb. Comr. Sheriff Mulade have while addressing the press during the exercise commended Agediga for commemorating the Martin Luther King Jr 2022 Day. 

He said while the event is a global one, he stressed that CEPEJ is joyful to have shown solidarity to her sister NGO SAF.

Speaking further, Chief Mulade had called on the South-South Governors to support His Excellency, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State in his fight to see that the entire Niger Delta region is rescued from the clutches of environmental pollution. 

Some other groups that shows solidarity to  SAF include the Speaker of 5th Mobile Parliament of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Rt. Hon. Bob Collins Igetei and his crew of parliamentarians, Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, Dr. Comr. Doubra Collins Okotete, The Delta Ijaw Comrade Community (DICC) led by its president general, Amb. Comr. Binebai Yerin Princewill.

Others are Common Men Assembly, Ogulagha Urban Youths, Nadestu, Nadis, National Association of Burutu Local Government Students (Nablogs), Ogulagha Clan Students as well as others too numerous to mention.
