Senior Special Assistant, SSA to the Delta State governor on Peace and Security Comr. Daniel Ezekiel has said that Peace is the very foundation on which good governance and sustainable development rest on.
Comr. Ezekiel stated this while speaking at an event organized by Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) in commemoration of World Peace Day yesterday at Uvwie town hall, Effurun Delta State.
Come. Ezekiel noted that development and good governance can only thrive in any society when there is prevailing peace and tranquility, the absence of which is chaos and underdevelopment.
” It is a fact that peace is the foundation upon which every thing in society, be it good governance which we all crave for, building of hospitals, roads, schools, job opportunities and other indices of enabling environment rest on”
While noting that no investor will be willing to do business in a state to help create employment opportunities in an atmosphere of anarchy and insecurity, revealed that it was on that premise that Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa made peace building a cardinal aspect of his SMART agenda.
According to him ” Without peace, investors will not bring their money into Delta state to empower people in form of setting up companies. It is on this basis that his Excellency ,Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa , the executive Governor of Delta state came up with the SMART AGENDA to pilot the affairs of the state, with peace being the fulcrum”
He also disclose that ” In the last 4 years, his Excellency has devoted time and energy in working out peaceful mechanism for solving issues, be it among various ethnic groups in the state or between multi-national companies and their host communities , reason atmosphere of tranquility pervaded the state, which he is ready to build on in this his second term. ”
While underscoring the importance of peace, the SSA recalled that after the first and second world wars in I918 and 1945, most actors in the war comprising countries like United states of America, China, Britain, Soviet Union, Germany, French, Canada and a few others came together to make peace.
He said that the countries came to the decision to build peace at all cost ” having realized the ruin crisis put the world , and which it will further lead it into if they fail to devise means of coming up with a peaceful template. ”
He promised that his office will partner with CEPEJ to continue preaching the message of peace and also join forces to fight against insecurity especially Cultism, gangsterism, armed robbery and kidnapping until the society is rid of these social vices.
The SSA commended CEPEJ under the leadership of Amb. Comrade Sheriff Mulade ”for taking a lead in propagating the ideal of peace around the country in the last one week. ”
