Yokiri, Sokebolou Leaderships Tasks SPDC, Chevron, FG, State, Others For Development

The leaderships of Yokiri and Sokebolou, major oil producing communities in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State has tasked Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Chevron and the Federal Government of Nigeria for its development.

While harping on the viable economic contributions of the two communities to the nation at large, the communities leaderships have also drawn the attention of the Delta State Government, Burutu Local Government leadership as well as other developmental agencies to compensate the communities with what they described as aggressive development.

Chairman of Sokebolou Community, Mr. Churchill Dose made the remark while delivering his acceptance speech yesterday at the Sokebolou community town hall in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

It would be recalled that Chairman Churchill delivered the acceptance speech on behalf of the his counterpart, Engr. Moses Ibilou, chairman of Yokiri community and his executive members.

Speaking among other vital issues, Mr. Dose called on investors to come to Ogulagha Kingdom, particularly to Sokebolou and Yokiri for cattle rearing, beef farming, Gin distillery, fish farming as well as modular refinery, stressing that the land is fertile enough for such to blossome.

In his message to the newly inaugurated executive members, Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu Federal constituency, House of Representatives stressed that indeed a new Sokebolou community is truly emerging.

The federal lawmaker promised that together with other political leaders in the community, they will all contribute their quota for the development of the area.

He expressed joy over the mammoth crowd that filed out in their numbers to grace the occasion, adding that the welcome address presented by chairman Dose is excellent and urges him to stand by it.

On his part, national president of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Worldwide, Barr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi lauded the unity displayed by the people of Yokiri and Sokebolou communities during the twin inauguration.

He noted that the entire Ijaw nation needs that kind of unity that exists between Sokebolou and Yokiri communities in Ogulagha Kingdom, adding that with such unity, there is nothing the people can’t achieve.

Speaking further, President Oweilaemi asserted that the Ijaws are the uniting factors in Nigeria.

He particularly frowned at the continued militarization of the Ijaw waterways, noting that such activities ought to have stopped by now.

Chief Organ Alaye, oldest man of Sokebolou community has charged the newly inaugurated executive members to strive hard in order to plant visible legacies during their reigns.

He noted that they must prioritize the interest of the people first before anything, adding that Sokebolou is indeed moving forward saying that “Sokebolou community will continue to move forward, our executive members must always remember members of the community in their dealings”.

The entertainment

On entertainment during the historic inauguration described as the most attended in the Kingdom, a global soul music Icon, Timi Dakolo with his melodic voice thrilled the gathering to maximum satisfaction.

The main band set coordinated by the Isaba Ijaw music kingpin, Prince Abraham Dono was also in an unmatchable state as he keeps on releasing one hot song to the other to the ever dancing crowd.

There was an Ijaw cultural troupe in Sokebolou that also entertains magnificently.

It would be recalled that the oath of office and allegiance was administered by the duo of Barr. Obiri Ebilade and his colleague Barr. Clem Omotoye to the executives of Sokebolou and Yokiri communities a situation the people described as a new dawn.

Some of the dignitaries present during the occasion include Amb. Shedrack Agediga, Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Hon. Omashuli, commissioner representing Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the board of DESOPADEC, Barr. Leonard Anoka, Executive Director, Social Services, DESOPADEC, Chief Oyibode, commissioner representing Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie and Urhobos in Warri on the board of DESOPADEC.

Others include Chief Emman Amgbaduba, commissioner Delta State ministry of Oil and Gas, Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, member representing Warri South West, Delta State, Chief Kestin Pondi, the Ibebenemowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Ekomieyefa Uduboh, the Miyenkirigbolomowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Fezigha Odu, Chief Ebimobowei Oguma, Chief Mose Bebenimibo, Hon. Togoland Oruebi, Mr. Pascal Ekemieyefa, PDP Chairman ward 11, Hon. Adidi Preboye, Comr. Duncan Forcados, Mr. Emmanuel Sanibeni, SPDC officials, Comr. Austin Ozobo, national president Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, IPDI, Comedian Shakara with the host of other youth groups, women groups across Niger Delta that are too numerous to mention.
