Yokiri, Sokebolou Youths Expresses Grievances over SPDC’s dangerous chemicals – The Liberator

Youths of Sokebolou and Yokiri federated communities in Oil producing Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed what they described as deep grievance to the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC for depositing dangerous chemicals in its waters.
The youths who spoke through their presidents via a press statement issued to newsmen in Warri yesterday, signed by the duo of Comr. Tombrapagha Oleh Iguniwei, youth president of Yokiri as well as Comr. Blessing Ebimobowei Towei, youth president of Sokebolou community, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.
The youth leaders noted that members of Sokebolou and Yokiri federated communities are not happy over the spread of the dangerous chemicals in their waterways, stressing that aquatic bodies and even life in the communities are under serious threat owing to the chemicals.
They avered that the experience is a terrific, terrible and terrifying one where aquatic bodies dies in large quantities, stressing that it is truely strange.
They maintained that fishing remains the only source of livelihood and wondered what could become of them when their waters have been wantonly desecrated by SPDC.
The youths warned that SPDC must immediately begin the process of cleaning up of its environment, stressing that they can’t become endangered species for their natural endowments.
Tombrapagha and Towei had called on the attention of the federal government, Delta State Government and other reputable organisations and critical stakeholders to quickly wade into what they described as life threatenening situation.
