The member representing the people of Burutu Federal Constituent, Rt.Hon. Julius Pondi on Saturday said front line and Courageous Journalist, Dele Giwa was killed before his time by evil forces who are against the Niger Delta struggle for emancipation.

Pondi made the assertion at the official launch of the Liberator Newspaper in Effurun near Warri.

The federal lawmaker described the late Tell Magazine Editor as a “prolific writer” who projected the stories of the people of the Niger Delta in the right perspectives.

Pondi also likened the Publisher/Editor-In-Chief of The Liberator Newpsper, Amb. Princewill Yerin Binebai to the late Dele Giwa who was killed with a letter bomb in the year 1986.

He said,”Princewill is also a prolific writer like Dele Giwa who does his report prifessionally, accurately and without bias”.

In a lecture titled, “Echoes of the Niger Delta Emancipation, media and Liberator example” Prof. Benjamin Okaba said militancy was introduced into the struggle for emancipation to attract the attention of the international community at a time.

Prof. Okaba who is the current Dean, faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences of the Federal University, Otuoke also said the struggle for the emancipation of the region needs to be “externalized”.

According to him, ” We cannot achieve whatever we lack as the leadership to propel us is not there.”

Prof. Okaba noted that the media has a role to play in the reportage of the Niger Delta story stressing that the other conventional media from other regions in the Country had only reported cases of violence and destruction against the people of the South-South (Niger Delta) region.
