Amnesty: Bakumor gives reasons why Dokubo must be sacked
One of the leading voice in the Niger Delta struggle Ellington Bakumor has decried neglect of the Ex agitators by the federal government amnesty office.
This is coming on the heels of recent call for the sack of the head of the Amnesty peogramme Charles Dokubo for non performance.
Bakumor in a strongly worded statement he issued with the hash tag ”Charles Dokubo Must Go,” a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper had queries why people who were not part of the struggle are feeding fat while the real agitators are reduced to beggars.
” The actual fighters have been reduced to beggars at the mercy of some, you see them in front of the Amnesty office everyday begging and crying for help, begging to be trained, begging for their right.
He lamented that those who were never part of the struggle from the out set have become major beneficiaries while the boys who were in the battle front have been relegated to the background.
In his words ” those who never carried guns are Msc. holders today, those who saw themselves as saints are now major contractors in the office , while the boys who carries guns have been relegated to the background”
He recalled that when the Niger Delta struggle lasted ,some Ijaws called the agitators all sorts of derogatory names and wished they died.
In his words: “‘When our boys were in the creek shooting, Ijaw people called them all manner of derogatory names and even wish for their deaths”.
He accused the amnesty office under the watch of Dokubo of not doing enough to address the real challenges of the people , stressing that the ” Original blue print of the Amnesty office have been lost to the greed and wickedness of selected few.”
Bakumor however warned that the relative peace being enjoyed currently in the region is likely to be truncated if urgent steps are not taking to address the injustices mete out to the people.
