Chairman of the Ijaw National Congress, INC Electoral Committee, Rear Admiral W . G Yanga (Rtd) has once again assured the Ijaw nation that he will together with members of the committee conduct a free, fair and credible election.
Admiral Yanga gave the assurance yesterday at Ijaw House (Izon Ware) in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State during a press briefing on the committee’s readiness to conduct a hitch free election.
The INC electoral committee chairman had particularly emphasized that there is no going back this time around on the scheduled date for the election.
He had however reiterated that the election will be taking place on Saturday the 29th of June 2019 in Yenagoa.
According to him, the committee had made all neccessary security arrangements to ensure that the atmosphere is peaceful and devoid of rancor as mateials for the election are now ready.
Yanga had further explained that movement of people that are non delegates for the election and people without a role for the election will not be permited to loit around the area on the day of election.
He had stated that the accreditation of delegates will be done at the Ekeki Peace Park, opposite Government House where some candidates for the election is expected to give manifestoes.
He had maintained that the delegate list emanates from Kingdoms that constitutes the Ijaw National Congress, INC, the various Chapters and Ijaws in Diaspora which according to him is inline with the INC constitution.
When asked by journalists on the total number of delegates expected to vote and number of candidates vying for the different positions, Admiral Yanga had revealed that 450 delegates are expected to be accredited to vote for the election while 31 candidates will be seeking to be elected into the various offices.
On the allege open endorsement of a particular INC presidential candidate by the Governor of Bayelsa State recently in Warri, Delta State, Admiral Yanga had distanced the electoral committee on the move, stressing that they have no business with that as its mandate is to conduct a free, fair and credible election for the Ijaw people.
On his part, Dr. (Associate Prof) Benedict Binebai, a continental award winning literary icon from the Niger Delta University, NDU, Amassoma in Bayelsa State who is a member of the committee had in his vote of thanks appreciated the media for their cooperation so far, adding that the Ijaw nation must move forward by all means.
He had reechoed that the quest to conduct a credible election by the Admiral Yanga led INC electoral committee is non negotiable.
It would be recalled that chairman of the electoral committee was accompanied to the hall at Izon Ware by other four members of the committee while others according to Admiral Yanga are on different official assignments regarding the fast approaching election.
