NABLOGS decries infrastructural decay, Govt negligence on DESSOMATECH

The National Association of Burutu Local Government Students (NABLOGS) have decried the infrastructural delay and state Government neglect of the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu.

They also alleged shortchange of Ijaws and other sundry challenges inhibiting the smooth running of School of Maritime Technology Burutu.

This was contained in a communique signed by the duo of Comr. Azigbeotu K. Samson and Comr. Kodoye Tam Bruno President and Secretary general respectively, issued on behalf of NABLOGS, a copy of which was obtained by The Liberator Newspaper.

The student body had on Wednesday paid courtesy visit to the Acting Rector of School of Maritime Technology Burutu Engr. Akpoyibo Famous Ebiowei.

According to them, the visit was to familiarize with the school and also discuss some pertinent issues with regards to the well being of the school as well as students

The communiqué reads ”That there’s a low patronage of Ijaw students from Burutu LGA and her sister LGAs in the school.”

”That there are only Two (2) Ijaw students in the midst/class of Twenty students of the school and that, this is an aberration and it is pathetic.”

”That we implore all students from the LGA and other Ijaw students to apply for admission even as admission is on-going and to take advantage of this unique school with abundance opportunities.”

”That there are more students from East and West than the state or the LGA.”

”That the school also lack publicity which has also contributed to it’s general low patronage.”

”That our people and leaders have not shown enough commitment and concern for the overall development and progress of the institution.”

”That the presence of many multinational oil companies in the LGA has not been felt by the institution.”

”That DESSOMATECH is the only polytechnic in the state or country with different campuses Shared among three senatorial districts.”

”That DESSOMATECH is the only tertiary institution in the country which has more non indigens/Ijaws than Ijaws as academic staff as against the convention of staff recruitment in tertiary institutions.”

Lastly ”That we call on the Government, leaders and all relevant agencies to expedite on-going works in the permanent site for completion within the shortest period.”

They hinted that the communique were revelations made by the acting Rector in the course of their discussion which according to them, is of serious concern to the Burutu student body.
