Edo: 12 Years Of Negligence, Gelegelegbene Strikes Host Company, Shutdown Operations – The Liberator

After 12 years of iron fisted manipulation, negligence and oppression meted out on the people of Gelegelegbene Community in Ovia South West local government area in Edo state by Dubri oil firm, the people have marched to shutdown oil operations in the community.
The community, both youths, women and elders stormed the company site yesterday and immediately shutdown its operations after several efforts to draw the attention of the company to their plight failed.
The community lamented that the company breached the MoU signed with Community since 2008 and failed to provides social amenities, scholarship and other enssentials for the community over the years.
They stressed that work in the company site would remained closed till when the company deem it fit to come down to enter proper agreement with the community and pay up all outstanding monies running over 200millions.
It was gathered that security had been deployed to the community to calm the tension.
However, efforts to reach the company’s management for comments failed as text message sent to the company remained not replied.
