OML 42: Delta Community Vows To Resist  Attempt By NPDC/Neconde To Quarantine Workers – The Liberator

The people of Jones Creek Community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have vowed to resist any attempt by the management of Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC ) and Neconde JV to allegedly quarantine workers in the area for possible crew change.
The rejection was made earlier today in a statement signed by the trio of Mr. Bendel Obiri, Chairman of Jones Creek, Mr. Innocent Ukuli, Vice Chairman as well as Mr. Blessing Laide, Secretary, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.
The community leaders warned that Jones Creek must not be used to quarantine workers, noting that it is risky as the company work force spreads across states of the federation that are heavily affected by the novel coronavirus.
In their words: “Jones Creek Community Reject Quarantine of OML 42 Workers at Victory 1 Houseboat in Jones Creek. The Executive of Jones Creek Community led by Bendel Obiri Chairman, Innocent Ukuli Vice Chairman and Blessing Laide Secretary, we stating categorically that on behalf of the residents of Jones Creek Community, we totally reject the plan AMT NPDC/Neconde JV to quarantine workers from highly Covid-19 infected States for possible crew change. This act is dangerous as the required facility according to NCDC regulations to quarantine workers and Isolate persons from infected states in not available.”
The statement continued: “We can’t risk the lives of our people, the effect of oil and gas exploration is glaring without remediation process over the years and now the management of NPDC/Neconde want to wipe out our community with covid-19 pandemic. We are ready to resist any move by any means necessary.”
The statement maintained that the decision becomes necessary to avoid possible outbreak of Coronavirus in the rural communities.
However, the community particularly called on the Federal Government, Delta State Government, DPR as well as other relevant agencies to enforce the regulations guiding oil and gas operations in the country.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications from other communities in the area, cutting across come communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom that are kicking against the move by the said NPDC/Neconde JV to quarantine workers for crew change, insisting that they will not allow such to happen.
