Two Years After, Ogulagha Kingdom Remembers Late General Bonny Gawei

Today the 14th of July 2020 marked exactly two years that one of Niger Delta finest freedom fighter, self styled Gen Bonny Abadi Gawei of Ogulagha Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State sailed to the world beyond. 

Since then, the people of oil rich Ogulagha kingdom has been thrown into deep mourning as the vacuum left behind by the late general is yet to be filled. 

Today, predominantly youths across communities constituting Ogulagha Kingdom marched round his community, Obotobo 1 earlier today.

The peace walk which began at the wee hours of today saw his kinsmen converging at his compound where he was buried and thereafter, they marched round the community before finally going to his personal village to reminisce on his good deeds while he was  alive. 

General Bonny Gawei died after a brief illness on the 14th of July 2018, leaving behind painful memories among family members, friends, associates, loved ones, Ijaw nation, Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. 

The two years remembrance peace walk cum showering of  eulogies on the deceased Niger Delta dogged  freedom fighter was organised by his kinsmen, Soubofegha Ogbo (Vigilantes) of Obotobo 1 community in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. 

According to chairman of the group, Comr. Ato Deck who addressed the press at the end of the peace walk at late general Bonny Gawei’ s village, he particularly described the late general as a legend, icon, hero and a fearless freedom fighter, stressing that they will forever miss him and will continue to carry on his legacies and ideals. 

The group leader, Chairman Deck, speaking on behalf of his people noted that the late general had paid his dues in the Niger Delta struggle for emancipation before joining his ancestors, asserting that the people of Ogulagha Kingdom are proud of him even in death. 

Speaking further, Comr. Ato maintained that late general Bonny Abadi Gawei fought hard for the realisation of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, adding that he had defended the Ijaw cause no matter how it manifest itself.
