•Urges FG to drop charges against Ekpemupolo

Chairman Egbesu generals, (EG) Gen. Freedom Adowei, former leader Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND and other 38 generals have celebrated Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo on his birth anniversary.

The group had particularly called on the Federal Government to drop all charges against Tompolo, stressing that the continuos hunt and incaceration of the former warlord makes no sense as Tompolo is a man of peace, development and justice.

Adowei while describing Chief Ekpemupolo as a man of peace, had asserted that a fight against Tompolo is a battle for the gods.

The Egbesu generals made the appeal yesterday in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria during a well attended meeting of over 400 ex agitators drawn from all states across the Niger Delta region.

The appeal was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Abuja, a copy of which was made available to The Liberator Newspaper, signed by Adowei on behalf of the Egbesu generals.

EG had vowed to stand by Tompolo no matter the situation, adding that it will never be part of any move to surrender any Ijaw son to the Federal Government henceforth, stressing that the mistakes of the past will never be repeated.

However, Adowei had also charged the federal Government to complete all ongoing projects in the Niger Delta region.

The statement read in part bellow: “Gen. Adowei and 38 other generals under the aegis of Egbesu generals convened in Abuja to mark the occasion of High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo 48’s birthday. The meeting where over 400 persons were in attendance collectively resolved that, enough is enough for the continuous persecution of TOMPOLO. The whole Ijaw nation is saying no to endless incarceration. Never again will the Ijaws give out their sons to Nigerian government to kill. 

“Yes, we may have ignorantly gave out our purposeful leaders in the time past. Oh, late major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro and late Ken Sarowiwa of blessed memories, the Ijaw nation is still weeping for your demise, the project you started is still yet to be completed. 

“The continuous persecution of Tompolo is a perpetual silent of developmental projects in Niger Delta. Tompolo who took over from the celebrated falling heroes  has always being in the business of promoting developmental policies.  

“Gen. Adowei also seize this August occasion of Tompolo’s birthday to urge the federal government to fast track the completion of on going projects most especially the already completed Okerenkoko floating duck yard to be moved from Lagos to its original base at Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State and also kick start the commencement of other meaningful project like the Deep Sea Port and other related projects. 

“Gen. Adowei concluded by positing that, our peace advocacy today will not last so as the witch-hunting of Tompolo continue. If this peace we preached receive not positive reactions then we will be convinced that the Nigeria’s government sued for otherwise and believe me they will have it in full.” The statement asserted.

Meanwhile, Barr. Ekpemupolo Frank, media aid to the Egbesu generals had also joined his voice with the generals to sue for peace, emphasizing that Tompolo is a man of peace, stating that the celebration of Tompolo is a celebration of peace.

He had described the alleged witch-hunt of Tompolo by the federal government as a fulfillment of prophecy. 

In his words: “Peace among Nigerians is what we preach today”.
