Okowa urged to urgently constitute DESOPADEC board following rotation principle
A group operating under the auspices of Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities has appealed to His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State to urgently constitute board members of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC following the existing rotation principle among the oil producing Kingdoms.
This was made known to newsmen in an open letter dated on Tuesday 9th of July 2019 to the Governor of Delta State signed by Bishop (Dr.) Samsom Amajene (AmbP), President and six others.
The group had maintained that the delay in appointing board members of the Commission is becoming worrisome.
The letter read in full bellow:
His Excellency,
Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa,
The Executive Governor
Delta State.
9/07/2019
Your Excellency,
Follow The Rotation Formula In Selecting Officials Of DESOPADEC In Delta State
After Executive Meeting of the Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities of Nigeria held on the 3rd of July 2019 at Warri, the body thereby resolved as follows:
1. We are appealing to our amiable Governor to go into his archive to know the kingdoms that have been appointed as Chairman, Commissioners, Managing Director, Executive Director and those that have not benefited in this regard.
2. That the projects of DESOPADEC executed in Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities in 2015-2019 where sketchy as there was budget roll over which did not go down well with our people.
3.That there is rotation (zoning) arrangement among the seven Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities which are: Gbaramatu Kingdom, Ogulagha Kingdom, Egbema Kingdom, Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom, Diebiri Kingdom, Iduwini Kingdom and Kou Kingdom.
4.We therefore, appeal that there should be 4th amendment to restructure DESOPADEC into Ethnic Development Agencies where each tribe has its accruable funds to carry out projects in their various ethnic nationalities which have not been the case in the first administration.
5. We therefore frowned owing to the fact that there were consistent budgets roll over since 2015- 2019 which mortally affected the development of Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities in the State.
6. That as a mater of urgency, the Governor should constitute the new DESOPADEC Board to make them swing into action for speedy growth and development of the oil producing communities.
7. That Governor Okowa should appoint two Commissioners and at least one powerful office such as the Chairman or Managing Director of DESOPADEC in accordance with the zoning arrangement.
8. That Ijaw people in their respective communities should be calm and accept any body that will be given position because all Ijaws are all one.
