Peace Day: UN Peace Ambassador Agediga Splashes Cash, Food Items To The Aged In Delta

It was a big day in Delta State on the International Day of Peace as the United Nations (UN) PALAC peace ambassador, Amb. Shedrack Agediga, a leading philanthropist led members of his foundation, the Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF) to the Catholic Old Peoples Home at Bowen avenue Warri to preach peace. The SAF delegation led by its Chairman, Amb. Shedrack Agediga and other key members of the foundation who visited the Catholic Old peoples home at Bowen avenue warri on September 21st, the International Peace Day doled cash and massive food items to the aged, stressed that there is no greater time to show love and preaching peace than the International Day of Peace.
Some of the food items dished out to the aged and widows include bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, tubers of yams, plantains, sanitary pads, sacks of Onions, cartons of tomatoes, kegs of Oil and groundnut Oil as well as other items.
The United Nations Peace Ambassador cum recipient of the Nelson Mandela centenary award had stated that peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups, religions and nations all over the world remains the bedrock of development and a happy life.
Speaking further on the importance of peace, Agediga maintained that peace is priceless, stressing that the gains of peace cannot be overemphasized particularly in a world filled with uncertainties.
He had particularly called on critical stakeholders in the world to always see reasons for peaceful coexistence just as he said there is hardly any gain associated with violence.
“Today is International day of peace. It is a day set aside by the United Nations to recognize the efforts of those who worked hard to end conflict and promote peace among nations and people. This is why I visited senior citizens at The Catholic Old peoples home Bowen avenue warri to celebrate with them and to also give within my reach to put smile on their faces in my own little way, it is our usual way to always celebrate the World Peace Day in different ways, this year, we felt we should celebrate it this way”. Amb. Shedrack Agediga, Chairman of the Shedrack Agediga Foundation stated.
Meanwhile, in their reaction, the widows at the Bowen Avenue in Warri who received the food items with gladness particularly appreciated and described Agediga and his team as rare breeds of human species, thanking them for the show of love.
They continued that it is their prayer that the Lord Almighty shall continue to elevate him more and more until he gets to the zenith of whatever he intends to achieve in life, adding that they will be eternally grateful to him.
It would be recalled that the theme for the 2020 world peace day is ‘shaping peace together’ with a call on all persons to spread compassion, kindness and hope in the face of Covid-19 pandemic and to stand together with the UN against using the virus to promote discrimination or hatred.
Beside preaching peace constantly, SAF have been transforming the lives of many through financial assistance and training of individuals around the world, most recent kind gesture of the NGO was the massive distribution of food items to communities in the creeks during the nationwide lockdown occasioned by the novel coronavirus and the distribution of preventive materials to prevent the virus in the creeks of Niger Delta.
Nevertheless, Agediga is currently the Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS), Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
