Riverine communities in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State is groaning in pain as flood on Saturday bites harder by displacing more residents, rendering them homeless, destroying their properties and fish farms worthing hundreds of thousand of naira. The Liberator Newspapers can report

While the heavy downpour has become a scary nightmare to the rural dwellers, the people of Ayakoromo in Ngbilebiri Kingdom, Obotebe, traditional headquarters of Obotebe kingdom and other communities in Burutu Local Government Area and beyond in Delta  State have started counting their losses.

There are also reports that the flood has gravely affected Patani and other coastal communities in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State.

At Ayakoromo, Obotebe, Patani and other Ijaw settlements, the story is almost the same as residents paddle to access their houses to count their losses under pathetic conditions.

However, while residents have come to grapple with the challenge of hunger, health issues and other terrifying situations, the Government and well meaning individuals must not fail in providing relief materials and relocating these people to a more safer place by way of providing IDP camps.

While it is important to urgently address the aforementioned issues quickly, the Government and its agencies must begin to find a lasting solution to this perennial flood that is becoming a yearly festival in the coastal communities.

The Delta State Government and other related agencies in Nigeria must be aware that all is not well with the people living in the said riverine communities as they are facing the worse moments of their lives, hence the need why the government and privileged individuals must act fast.

This is a developing story, more details later………..
