​Christmas Day: Peaceful Coexistence, Love, Unity Tops Ijaw Day Celebration In Udu

As Ijaw sons and daughters filed out in their numbers within Udu and its environs to converge at the Peabody Hotel to celebrate Ijaw Day yesterday in Delta State, the need for a peaceful coexistence among the Ijaws and their host, the Udu people was made a topmost priority among the various Ijaw stakeholders that spoke with The Liberator Newspapers. 

The event which saw the scintillating performance of an Ijaw music luminary, Bestman May, alias Junior Senator Fred Ebi May witnessed the magnificent display of the gorgeously dressed Ijaw men and ladies dancing to the melodic voice of the young talented Ijaw musician, Bestman May. 

Beside the live performance, The Liberator Newspapers can report that despites the many side attractions, a special Ijaw cultural dance troup from Isaba Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, known as the golden dancers were featured to exhibit their talents, a situation that kept everyone in the gathering wondering on the unanimous display of raw talents by the young magnificent dancers. 

Other side attractions include the soft and satirical display of banies and father Christmas on the other hand. 

While it would be recalled that other cultural dance crew where on ground to display, it is crucial to note that different fire brand Ijaw music luminaries were on ground, some of these names include Chief Kingsley Takemebo, Sir Coded M. Buku, Ebi Pinapinawei with the host of others. 

However, on his part, Chief Promise Lawuru, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Okowa on security who doubles as the president of Egbema Brotherhood in a brief chat with The Liberator Newspapers noted that the need to celebrate the Christmas Day as Ijaw Day for all Ijaws living in Udu is for some laudable reasons. 

Some of the reaons according to him was for Ijaw sons and daughters to know themselves via the avenue, the need to always live peacefully with their hosts, fun, promotion of the rich Ijaw cultural heritage among other pertinent issues. 

He noted that the idea is not to drag leadership with anyone but providing an avenue for Ijaws to come together as a people binded by blood. 

Chief Lawuru stated that  by the grace of God, the Prime Minister of the Ijaws in Udu under the aegis of Ijaw Council in Udu will ensure that they make the event a yearly one. 

He particularly thanked all those that supported the programme in one way or the other and those that massively turned out to grace the occasion for their show of love.

The Liberator Newspapers can report that the event was well attended by several dignitaries from the Ijaw extraction as well as launching of Ebi Pinapinawei’s music album.
