There is palpable tension in the Niger Delta region over plans by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) Limited to massively retrench Ijaws and other minority ethnic groups across the Niger Delta region.

The apex youth body of the Ijaws Worldwide under the aegis of Ijaw Youth Council  has rejected the plan via a letter sent to the Managing Director of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) Limited, Abuja dated on the 5th of January 2021, signed by the duo of Comr. Saviour Olali, deputy national president Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide and Pogonyo Eldred Digimie, Speaker IYC Mobile Parliament Worldwide, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers yesterday.

However, Eldred had hinted our reporter that after gotten an hint on the matter on how Ijaws have been treated unfairly by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited across the Niger Delta region, the IYC Mobile Parliament Worldwide, headed by Pogonyo decided to write a letter dated 10th of December 2020 to Agip allegedly highlighting some of the abnormalities meted out on the Ijaw ethnic group which they described as ethnic cleansing in the company masterminded by an Igbo.

The IYC Mobile Parliament Speaker continued that instead of hoping  for a favourable reply from Agip to see how such allegations would be investigated and justice be done on the matter, the company replied by describing  their former letter and the various issues raised as false and baseless claims in a letter dated 14th of December 2020 from the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide had in this recent letter addressed to the company insisted that the letter from Agip is not something to go bye as it failed to address the foregoing issues of ethnic manipulations hovering around the company.
