The Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (EDPRS) on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Amb. Dr. Comr. Shedrack Agediga yesterday presented with the “Public Servant of The year,” award by the Nigerian Students’ Parliament, Southern Assembly.

Dr. Agediga who also bagged the Nigerian Students’ Ambassador award, while appreciating the Parliamentarians, went down memory lane to the hay days when he was younger, saying, “I was under obligation to give back to society. So when I do things, I do them passionately.”

He then narrated why he accepted the appointment of Special Assistant to the Governor, shortly after his return from the United States.

According to him, it was not because of the salary but rather, he just wanted to make a difference and a lot was credited to him, while serving in that office. The Governor was impressed with him and told him, “I see that you are so organized, I will give you a bigger responsibility,” and that statement gave birth to the seat he is occupying today, he said. He thus, promised to assist his visitors in their programme.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Parliamentarians, Rt. Hon. Michael Okon had said that they were in his office to appreciate him for the good works he was doing and to recognize him as one of the five persons they had streamlined to give awards.

“This is really symbolic because I went through your profile and saw that you were the Special Assistant to the Governor on Conflict Resolution. I saw the numerous things you did and I was asking myself how much you were earning as SA to the Governor to be able to achieve all of those things, which included sponsoring a lot of Niger Delta youths on training and giving them financial assistance. I think at some point in time, people were calling on the governor to give you a higher responsibility so that you can get to cater for their needs.”

He was thus, presented with the award of the “Public Servant of the Year,” in recognition of his outstanding achievements, selfless service to humanity and unending support towards the development of youths and students in the State and beyond, by the group.
