A revered group operating under the auspices of Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), on Thursday met in Warri at ‘Casa de Pedro’ Hotel, Refinery road, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State where critical issues affecting the country and Niger Delta at large was discussed. In the well attended meeting that was presided over by the group’s President, Amb. Comr. Mamamu Bene Youkore, alias young Chief had in his remark appreciated the youth leaders for turning out in their numbers, stressing that he is impressed with the level of attendance by stakeholders from the Niger Delta states. 

After much deliberation by members of the Niger Delta Youth Council, the group had while sympathizing with flood victims in Nigeria, particularly Niger Delta, had drawn the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria, NEMA and the various Niger Delta Governors to urgently swing into action by putting up mechanisms to ameliorate the sufferings of the flood victims. 

While addressing the press shortly after the crucial meeting, President of the Niger Delta Youth Council, Amb. Comr. Mamamu Bene Youkore noted that part of the resolutions reached by members of group at the end of the meeting include the burning issues of flood and the transformation of the Amnesty programme to a permanent ministry, commission or agency. 

On the issue of flood, President of the group noted that Niger Deltans are suffering due massively due to the ravaging flood as a lot of communities have been submerged by the flood, thereby rendering residents homeless and their source of livelihood completely destroyed. 

However, he continued that the Government must do something about the ugly situation as the flood has not only made life difficult and miserable for the people but the people  are now grappling with health challenges owing to the stagnant and steadily rising water, adding that it is very important for the Federal and state Governments to meet the people at the point of their needs. 

Speaking further, Amb. Bene said it is high time  the Federal Government of Nigeria and the various state Governors begin to look deep into the flood issue by putting up measures that will largely control the flood subsequently, adding that the uncontrollable perennial flooding do not speak well of the Government. 

Nevertheless, Youkore Mamamu had also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to begin a process of transforming the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme to a permanent ministry, agency or commission that will also cater for the needs of Niger Deltans, particularly to forestall future agitations in the region. 

The group had stated that President Muhammadu Buhari must not ever dare to think of scrapping the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, stressing that the programme should be upgraded instead. 

Meanwhile, Youkore asserted that Niger Deltan Youths must always be seen to be united, stressing that with unity, anything is possible to achieve.
