The leadership of the 9th executive council led by Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr , the Speaker of the 5th mobile Parliament, yesterday visited Ijaw people in Akwa ibom State.

The President and his team journeyed to meet with Ijaw people in Akwa Ibom State in a bid to have a first hand information about the happenings and the plight the Ijaw people are going through in the hands of State actors.

The President and his team was welcomed with a vast expanse of land harnessed by the State to cultivate coconut farm which has laid fallow since the day it was planted.

The President and his team was also welcomed with a death trap of road, which led many of thier cars to sink as a result of the bad road.

The President was finally welcomed by the good people of Eastern Obolo, an LGA occupied by the marginalized Ijaw people just like thier sister LGA, Mbo, Ibeano Urukafiong etc.

Hear Mr President address to the people.
” For those who came with me, saw the vast expanse of coconut plantation which we understood belong to Ijaw people that was harnessed by the government without paying royalties to the people ”

You dont harness an ancestral home of a people and the gods will keep quiet. The gods of Ijaw land are fighting back.

I’m familiar with this area because I have once had a project I handled here, and I also understand that coconut will yield fruit after 2years of planting them but these one have stayed for over 5 years without fruit, this is a sign that the gods of the land is not happy with them”.

We as a people consider other Akwaibomites as brothers, but the continuous oppression by the Akwaibomites is becoming unbearable, forgetting that the Ijaw people are not just in Akwaibom but across the Niger Delta.

He called on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, to as a matter of urgency give special place to the Ijaws in Akwaibom,he also called on the Managing director of Nddc to quickly send his team to access the deplorable road leading to Eastern Obolo and other Ijaw communities in the State.

While responding HRM Eretor John the paramount ruler of Eastern Obolo charged the President of council and his team to be steadfast and pursue the Ijaw cause to a logical end.

He prayed for the team as they were later hosted by Ijaw Community living in Uyo the State Capital of Akwaibom.
