PAP: IYC Commends Tinubu For Appointing Otuaro, Issue Stern Warning To Traducers
By Rejoice Egbaseimokumor
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report.
Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill, Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council who in a press briefing held in Warri today while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Otuaro had described the choice of Otuaro as best choice and one of the best appointment made in the Niger Delta in the Tinubu led Federal Government of Nigeria.
Binebai had particularly warned elements speaking against Otuaro to be careful with their unguided utterances, stressing that Council will not seat quiet to see insignificant elements claiming to be stakeholders in the Niger Delta speak ill of Otuaro and his well-deserved and overdue appointment.
However, Binebai Princewill had particularly urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu to ignore such elements, stressing that those speaking against Otuaro are enemies of the region and should be seen and treated as such.
The statement reads in full below:
A Press Conference Held On Monday 29th Of April 2024 By The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide Over Provocative And Reckless Comments On The New Administrator Of The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro By Fellows Under The Guise Of Coalition Of Niger Delta Civil Society Organisations
1. The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, the largest youth movement in Niger Delta and a leading youth organisation in Nigeria and beyond is organising this press conference to once again formally appreciate His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Federal Republic of Nigeria and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu for appointing one of Niger Delta finest leaders that have paid huge sacrifice for a peaceful and united Niger Delta and Nigeria, Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), to us the appointment of Dr. Otuaro is done in the best interest of the region and the programme.
2. While it is not in the character of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to respond to every Tom, dick and harry, for the sake of the public, it is important we respond to certain elements that have vowed never to see a progressive Niger Delta region with their paid masters with particular regard to a very strange group masquerading under the auspices of Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organisations wherein the group was seen making remark that President Tinubu and Nubu Ribadu, NSA should revisit the appointment of Otuaro as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
3. To us, the remark against Dennis Otuaro from the Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organisations is not only reckless, careless, provocative and insulting but a move against the progress of Niger Delta and the Amnesty Programme. We find it very disrespectful seeing how people organise themselves under whatever guise to fight against the collective growth and progress of the region, as critical stakeholders in the region, Council will not allow and accept such garbages from such groups seeking relevance by all means.
4. The IYC is calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Federal Republic of Nigeria and his National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu to completely ignore the said group of persons as they do not even know the sacrifices people, particularly the Ijaws
paid before the establishment of the Amnesty program.
5. The Ijaw Youth Council as critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large is particularly happy with the appointment of Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme as his appointment is viewed as one of the best appointments in the region so far in the Tinubu led Federal Government of Nigeria. The entire region is at peace with the appointment of Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
6. The appointment of Otuaro is very key and significant as he has the requisite democratic credentials to improve on the gains recorded by previous administrators of the programme. Otuaro as a peace advocate was part and percel of all activities that successfully gave birth to the Amnesty Programme in 2009, nothing is new to him as we are confident that he will do his best in revamping the program to achieve its set objectives.
7. It can only be wickedness for people to speak against a man who has barely assumed office within a space of one month that his appointment should be revisited instead of allowing him to concentrate on his new office. However, the IYC is calling on such elements to retrace their steps by accepting the reality of Otuaro being the new administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
8. Let us make it very clear again that this will be the second time that the Federal Government of Nigeria is appointing a man with the struggle background to occupy the Amnesty Programme. We are confident that he will use his wealth of experience in the Niger Delta and beyond to change the hitherto ugly narrative that had engulfed the programme in recent times. He is no doubt the best man for the job at this point in time.
9. Perhaps some people seem not to be aware that Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro is not an Interim Administrator but a substantive Administrator of the programme. We are saying that going forward, Council is urging all good spirited Niger Deltans to always prioritise the progress of the region instead of creating unnecessary bickerings. This is the first time a Deltan is occupying the position as Administrator of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill
