Endorsement Of Ijaw DESOPADEC Commissioner Okpoye, A Wrong Move, Unnecessary – Welemu
By Rejoice Egbaseimokumor
Publicity Secretary of Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council (OKYC), Comr. Williams Ayoromiegha Welemu Jnr has condemned in strong terms the purported endorsement of Hon. Spencer Okpoye, Commissioner representing Ijaw Ethnic nationality, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
The Ogulagha Kingdom Publicity Secretary, Comr. Williams had particularly described the endorsement as a “Wrong and unnecessary move “, stressing that the endorsement is unpatriotic to his people.
According to him, endorsements should be done based on merit and excellent performance of a leader, adding that Okpoye has done nothing close to that to deserve endorsement while Ogulagha Kingdom is yet to feel the positive impact of DESOPADEC under Okpoye as Commissioner representing Ijaw Ethnic nationality in DESOPADEC.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Warri earlier today by Comr. Williams Ayoromiegha Welemu Jnr, Publicity Secretary of Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council (OKYC) , a copy of which was made available to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide
The statement reads in full below:
Re: Counter-Endorsement of Hon. Spencer Okpoye by the Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council
I am writing in response to the recent endorsement of Hon. Spencer Okpoye, the Commissioner representing the Ijaw nationality in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), which was purportedly issued by the Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council (OKYC) and published in a certain news medium on October 16, 2024.
While the endorsement claims to reflect the voice of the youth in Ogulagha Kingdom, it is important to clarify that no general meeting or consultation was held with the wider youth body of Ogulagha Kingdom to deliberate on the performance of Hon. Okpoye. Endorsements, particularly of this nature, should reflect the collective opinion of the youths after proper consultations, rather than the personal opinion of a few individuals.
Furthermore, the claim that the Commissioner has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the development of Ogulagha Kingdom is not supported by the realities on the ground. To date, there is little to no visible impact in terms of developmental projects or initiatives that have directly benefited the youth or the general populace of Ogulagha through the commissioner in his tenure. Endorsements should be based on verifiable achievements that uplift the community, but unfortunately, we have not seen such progress in Ogulagha.
As a responsible youth body, we believe that any endorsement must be rooted in facts, tangible results, and broad consensus from the kingdom’s youth through an open and inclusive meeting. We, therefore, urge Hon. Okpoye and all relevant stakeholders to focus on meaningful development in Ogulagha Kingdom, so that any future endorsement will be based on merit and not premature declarations.
We remain committed to the progress of Ogulagha Kingdom and urge all parties to work towards genuine development that reflects the true aspirations of our people.
Yours in struggle,
Williams Ayoromiegha Junior
Publicity secretary,
Ogulagha Kingdom Youth Council.
