By Rejoice Egbaseimokumor
A critical stakeholder in the Niger Delta region, Prince Olotu Botu has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently reinstate the Niger Delta Ministry.
This was contained in a statement personally signed and issued to newsmen recently in Abuja by Prince Botu, popularly known as Olotu, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide.
The statement reads in full below:
A Press Conference Calling On President Tinubu To Reinstate The Niger Delta Ministry:
Fellow Nigerians,
We stand here today, united in our concern for the well-being and development of the Niger Delta region. Recently, President Bola Tinubu’s administration made the decision to scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta as part of a broader restructuring effort ¹. While we understand the need for efficiency and reform, we strongly believe that dissolving this ministry will have devastating consequences for the people of Niger Delta.
The Ministry of Niger Delta was established to address the unique challenges and historical injustices faced by the region. It has played a vital role in promoting economic development, infrastructure growth, and social welfare in the area. By abolishing this ministry, we fear that the progress made will be reversed, and the region will be left behind.
Key Concerns:
– _Economic Development_: The ministry has been instrumental in attracting investments and creating jobs in the region. Without it, economic growth will stagnate.
– _Infrastructure Development_: The ministry has overseen critical infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, and waterways. These projects will now be left in limbo.
– _Social Welfare_: The ministry has provided essential services, including healthcare, education, and social protection programs.
We urge President Tinubu to reconsider this decision and reinstate the Ministry of Niger Delta. We propose:
Immediate Actions:
– _Reestablish the Ministry_: Restore the ministry to its former status, ensuring continuity of projects and programs.
– _Consultative Forum_: Establish a stakeholder forum to discuss the region’s needs and develop solutions.
– _Increased Funding_: Allocate sufficient funds to support the ministry’s initiatives.
We believe that reinstating the Ministry of Niger Delta is crucial for the region’s prosperity and Nigeria’s growth. We call on President Tinubu to act swiftly and address the concerns of the Niger Delta people.
Thank you.
Signed
Prince Botu (Olotu)
