Renowned Niger Delta leader, Amb. John Dekawei has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to undermine the Ijaws because of a personal relationship with Barr. Nyesom Wike, Minister Federal Capital Territory.
The Youth leader made the remark yesterday in Warri via a statement he personally signed, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide.
Dekawei had in the statement described the Ijaw people as the most peaceful people, stressing that all the efforts and sacrifices made by the Ijaws in enthroning the Tinubu’s Government must not be paid with such vindictiveness and bitterness.
In his words “Removing a democratically elected Governor, paving a way for a sole administrator in Rivers State is surely something that was done in bad faith that is purely against the Ijaw people and the people of Rivers State.
“It is a fact that the Ijaw areas across the Niger Delta region are the areas producing the oil that feeds the Nigerian State, the Federal government has over the years exploited and explored the Ijaw people both economically and politically for so long yet we are not complaining.
“The decision to declare state of emergency in Rivers State is something that we are seriously opposed to, let Nigeria continue to be peaceful as what has happened in Rivers State could be a recipe for chaos in the Niger Delta region if not properly handled.
“It is our plea that President Bola Tinubu whom the Ijaw people across the Niger Delta love and massively supported should reconsider and review his declaration. The Ijaw people cannot be cheated like this politically. ” Delta added
Meanwhile, Amb. John Dekawei had called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize strengthening Nigerian democracy, stressing that this is democracy and not a military regime.
