Not Time For Politics, Ijaw Nation Needs To Rise Up Now – IYC Spokesman

The national Spokesman of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide made the remark yesterday while speaking at a function in Warri as a guest speaker.
Dr. Princewill while charging the Ijaw nation to rise up to what he described as a well calculated gang up against the Ijaws asserted that it is not time for Ijaws to play politics of interest but to rather rise to defend the sanctity of the Ijaw ethnic nationality.
According to the trumpet of Ijaw nation, Dr. Binebai stated that till this moment, the Ijaws did not see the suspension of Fubara as legal and constitutional, adding that it was a clear case of oppression metted out on the Rivers and Ijaw people.
Speaking further, Princewill noted that the Ijaws that are the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria and majority in the Niger Delta region, rich in both natural resources and human resources are not comfortable with the alleged state sponsored backing given to Wike, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was biase in his declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State which led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The IYC Spokesman noted that for Council, it is no longer a political matter but a well hatched plan to divide and suppress Ijaw nation.
Nevertheless, Binebai particularly alerted sons and daughters of Ijaw nation to be vigilant enough not to be used by undemocratic and anti Ijaw forces to undermine the Ijaws in the Nigerian State.
The IYC had called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review his actions on the Rivers State matter, adding that the military’s launch of coordinated show of force in a peaceful Bayelsa is another growing concern to the Ijaw people.
“It is our strong position that the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide will never be part of anything movement that tends to undermine the Ijaw ethnic nationality by throwing support of any kind to people that are clearly working against the unity and progress of Ijaw nation.
“While Council is aware that politics is a game of interest, we must not play politics as Ijaw people that will bring shame and disgrace to our very enviable ethnic nationality in the Nigerian State, in essence, we must not play politics that threatens our very existence.
“At this critical time when Barr. Nyesom Wike, Minister Federal Capital Territory has been seen visibly not having regard to our highly revered Ijaw ethnic nationality, it will be wrong for the Ijaws to be fronting to host him in Ijaw lands across the Niger Delta region, and this is not acceptable as it will only bring more insults to Ijaw nation. ” Dr. Princewill Binebai asserted.
