In what has become an unprecedented jubilation across the Niger Delta region over the appointment of Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi, Member Representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives as Chairman House Committee on the South-South Development Commission, stakeholders in the region have hailed the appointment as well-deserving.
A stakeholder that have commented on the development asserted that with Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi as Chairman House Committee on the South-South Development Commission, things can only get better for Niger Delta and her people.
On his part, Amb. (DR) Binebai Yerin Princewill, Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) described Pondi as a round peg in a round hole, stressing that Pondi understands the Niger Delta terrain, the pains of the common man and expressed his optimism that Pondi will do his best in collaboration with the Minister, South South Development Commission and other stakeholders in allaying the fears of the Niger Delta people.
In his words ” Pondi is one of the finest political product from the Ijaw extraction, he is one very distinctive, key politician that have distinguished himself from others.
“His appointment to us is a well-deserved one, he has always advocated for a better Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole, becoming the pioneer House Committee Chairman on the South South Development Commission is surely a good political record for Pondi. “
According to the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) National Spokesman, Amb (Dr) Binebai Yerin Princewill who reacted to the development in Warri earlier today, noted that the underdevelopment of the Niger Delta region is surely something that all stakeholders from the region will use whatever position they have for the overall development of the region.
The Spokesman maintained that with the establishment of the South South Development Commission, he believes that in a matter of few years, the entire South South States will begin to wear a new look.
Binebai particularly charged the commission not to waste time in addressing the age long developmental deficiencies that have plagued the South South region for too long.
Meanwhile, in a political move, Pondi had also at plenary officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that his continued membership of the PDP have hindered his expected performance in Burutu Federal Constituency, stressing that the APC is the best way to go.
In his resignation letter read at the floor of the lower legislative chamber, Pondi stated that the crack in the national leadership of the PDP is one of the major reason for his defection to the APC.
Nevertheless, Hon Julius had reassured the people of Burutu Federal Constituency of prioritising their developmental interest at all point in time, adding that he will continue to be committed to his constituency and constituents.
It would be recalled that Pondi is also the House Committee Chairman on environment.
