The 2026 edition of the Amaseikumor Festival Football Tournament came to a thrilling close in Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, with Isoko National FC lifting the coveted trophy after a hard-fought victory over Ogulagha FC.
The grassroots football spectacle, organised by the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) under the leadership of Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley, drew participation from 12 teams across the region, reinforcing the festival’s growing reputation as a platform for youth engagement and talent discovery.
From the opening fixtures on April 6, the competition delivered intense encounters, progressing from knockout stages to a gripping final that kept spectators on edge. In the decisive match, Isoko National FC edged past Ogulagha FC with a lone goal, sealing a 1–0 triumph to emerge champions of the 2026 edition.
Ogulagha FC settled for second place after a resilient campaign, while Gbaramatu Urban secured third position with a 3–1 victory over Gbaramatu Zone in the classification match.
Beyond the competition, the event underscored a broader message of unity, peace, and youth empowerment within the Niger Delta. Presenting the trophy to the champions, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, High Chief Dennis Brutu Otuaro, commended the organisers for sustaining initiatives that channel the energy of young people into productive ventures.
The final also attracted prominent traditional and community leaders, including the Kurowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Jeffrey Ekankumor Ojogun, alongside the Positarewei, Chief (Hon.) Simeon Bebenimibo, who performed the ceremonial kick-off. Philanthropist Chief Soso Pondi and other dignitaries were also in attendance, lending support to the initiative.
Observers noted that the tournament, held as part of the wider Amaseikumor Festival, continues to serve as a unifying force in the region, blending culture with sports while promoting peace and social cohesion.
With another successful edition concluded, attention now shifts to future tournaments, as stakeholders call for sustained investment in grassroots sports development across the Niger Delta.
