FCT Police Raid Suspected Bandits’ Hideout, Recover Two Assault Rifles, Ammunition
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered two assault rifles, magazines and live ammunition from a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dajin Madam Forest following information provided by an arrested arms trafficking suspect. The recovery was made on August 2, 2026, when operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit conducted a follow-up operation based on intelligence obtained during an ongoing investigation into an alleged criminal network supplying weapons, ammunition and illicit substances to bandits.
The Command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to Adeh, the operation followed the arrest of four suspects who had allegedly been involved in the supply of arms and other materials to criminal groups. The suspects were previously paraded at the FCT Police Command Headquarters on July 11, 2026.
She identified one of the suspects as Musbahu Ishaq, who reportedly provided information that enabled police operatives to locate the suspected criminal camp in Dajin Madam Forest, an area situated between Plateau and Bauchi states.
Police investigators reportedly established that Ishaq allegedly obtained weapons and ammunition from a man identified as Rabiu Hassan before supplying them to Baba Alhaji Sanusi, whom the police described as a suspected bandit kingpin currently at large.
The police said Sanusi is believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State, while efforts are ongoing to track him down.
During the operation at the forest hideout, operatives reportedly discovered and recovered two AR Galil rifles, two magazines and live rounds of .223 calibre ammunition concealed inside the camp.
The recovered firearms were identified by the police as AR Galil rifles, calibre 96/.223 Model 355, with serial numbers G-2087951 and 2011432.
The FCT Police Command said the latest development represented another breakthrough in its efforts to disrupt kidnapping, arms trafficking and other forms of organised criminal activity within and around the nation’s capital.
Adeh said investigations were continuing, with operatives working to identify and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate, recover additional weapons and bring all those found culpable before the court.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks.
Sanusi assured residents that security agencies would continue to intensify operations until members of the alleged syndicate were apprehended and brought to justice.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
The Commissioner said public cooperation remained crucial to ongoing efforts to prevent criminal activities and strengthen security across the FCT and surrounding areas.
