By Ndu Samuel
The oil-rich Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, is set to host its illustrious son, Chief (Dr.) Pedro Bekenawei, the flag bearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as he visits the community on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The visit is expected to attract members of the community, political leaders, traditional stakeholders, youth leaders, women groups and other well-wishers who are expected to come out in their numbers to receive the former Chairman of Kokodiagbene Community.
Bekenawei, who previously served as Chairman of Kokodiagbene Community, remains a prominent figure in the community, with residents and stakeholders remembering his tenure for what they describe as impactful and people-oriented leadership.
His previous leadership role has also strengthened his relationship with the people, particularly through initiatives and interventions which residents say contributed to the development and welfare of the community.
The Wednesday visit is therefore expected to be more than a political engagement, as it will also provide an opportunity for the people of Kokodiagbene to welcome home a son who has remained connected to his roots.
Sources within the community said preparations are already underway to give the NDC flag bearer a befitting reception, with the atmosphere expected to be charged with excitement as residents await his arrival.
There are also strong indications that the visit could attract several political dignitaries and prominent personalities from across Delta State and beyond, with some expected to accompany Bekenawei to Kokodiagbene.
Political associates, community leaders, supporters of the NDC and other stakeholders are expected to use the occasion to demonstrate solidarity with the former community chairman and his political ambition.
The visit comes at a time when political activities are gradually gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political actors across the state intensifying engagements with communities and grassroots stakeholders.
For Kokodiagbene, however, the occasion is expected to carry a deeper significance, as the community prepares to receive one of its own.
As preparations gather momentum, all eyes are now on Kokodiagbene for what promises to be a colourful homecoming and political reception for Chief (Dr.) Pedro T. Bekenawei.
