Ofougbene Community in Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State erupted in massive jubilation as High Chief Godfrey Tare Pondi, General Manager of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, brought an end to years of darkness with the installation of 200 solar-powered streetlights.
The landmark project has dramatically transformed the once poorly lit community, casting bright illumination across major roads and streets, while significantly improving security and enhancing nighttime economic and social activities.
Residents, visibly excited by the development, poured out in celebration, singing and dancing in appreciation of what they described as a life-changing intervention. For many, the project represents more than just lighting—it symbolizes hope, safety, and a new beginning for the people.
Members of the neighboring Oborotu Communities also joined in the celebration, commending Pondi for extending the benefits of the project to surrounding areas. Community leaders noted that the initiative would help curb criminal activities, encourage local businesses, and create a more vibrant and secure environment.

Speaking on the development, stakeholders described Pondi as a true son of the soil who has remained committed to the growth and well-being of his people. It was recalled that the Pondi family also hails from Ofougbene, a connection many say is reflected in his passion to uplift the community.
“This is a historic moment for us,” a community elder stated. “For years, we lived in darkness, but today our nights are bright. High Chief Pondi has changed our story.”
Observers say the solar-powered streetlights project stands as a shining example of impactful leadership and community-driven development in the Niger Delta.
As the lights continue to shine across Ofougbene, the people say one thing is clear—darkness has given way to progress, and a brighter future has begun.
It would be recalled that the Ofougbene Community will be celebrating its 2026 Agula Festival on Saturday 28th March to 31st 2026.
