Local Government Autonony: Welemu calls on activists to look into Councils in Delta

A Niger Delta based Human Rights Activist, Comr. Williams Welemu Jnr has called on activists accross Delta State to critically look into the administration of Local Government Councils in the State.

The rights activist made the assertion yesterday via a statement issued to newsmen in Warri, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

According to him, the need to critically look into the administration of Local Government Councils in the state had become imperative as the Local Governments are about getting financial autonomy.

“We just can’t keep quiet like that, we need to know how we are ruled, Local Governments must now begin to seat up tight as we will be henceforth monitoring councils activities, since we are expecting increased allocation, we are now hoping for more development in our areas, council chairmen cannot come up with any excuse of not having money”. Welemu Stated.However, the rights activist had maintained that moves will be made soon to begin the monitoring of Councils, stressing that the Local Government is very essential to the grass root.
