The memory of late Isaac Adaka Boro, regarded as one of the heroes of the Ijaw nation, reverberated as he is being honoured with a symbolic soccer tournament at Isaba Community in Warri South West local government area of Delta state.

The maiden edition of the tournament tagged “Isaac Adaka Boro Super Cup” is being hosted by the Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy, a new entrant into the NationWide League Division Two, which has drawn participation from clubs as Isaba United, Ogbe-Ijoh United, Dream Boys Academy, Odi in Bayelsa state, amongst others.

In a thriller played today (Monday) by Isaba United fc against Ogbe-Ijoh United fc, the spectators were held spell bound by the fireworks and prolific display of raw talents which ended in a 1-1 scoreline at regulation time. Penalty shootout gave Ogbe-Ijoh United fc a deserved two nil victory.

In the second game of the day, Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy( the host) traded tackles against Dream Boys fc based in Odi, the hometown of Isaac Adaka Boro, and was watched by a full capacity crowd at the Isaba Grammar School sports ground. First Half scores stood at 2-1 in favour of Isaba United fc.

At the resumption of hostilities in the second half, Dream Boys fc levelled up scores at the 62nd minutes of play through a defensive lapse which caught the goalkeeper of the homers flat footed. This was followed by many scoring chances missed by Isaba United fc, who put the visitors on edge. Scores stood at 2-2 at regulation time, as penalty shootout was deployed to determine the winner, which eventually stretched into “sudden death” kicks that saw the visiting Dream Boys fc of Odi carry the day.

The enthusiasm generated in the once sleepy coastal community of Isaba has reached a feverish pitch with the inauguration of the Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy barely two months ago. It does look as if a new “religion” has come to town. It is on record that both the young and old, boys and girls from even neighbouring communities have been trooping to the sports complex on daily basis to watch training sessions and competitive matches.

An indigene of Isaba community who spoke to our reporter and gave his name as Lelekumor Angadi described the founder and President of the Academy, Engr. Jude Gbaboyor” as a young man whose vision and passion for the beautiful game has made our community a tourist destination”
