A prominent Niger Delta youth leader, Dr. Bestman Probel, has hailed the appointment of Barr. Ledum Mitee as a director on the new board and management team for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed the board and management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, with Barr. Ledum Mitee as Non-Executive Director .

Bestman, in the congratulatory message released by him on November 28, 2023, in Abuja, also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting Mitee, a son of the soil, with such a responsibility, assuring that the decision will not be regretted.

He said Mitee, who has been a bridge builder, coupled with his wealth of experience over the years, will perfectly fit into the new position.

“This is the most soothing news ever. The highest appointment ever recorded in this government as the leader, father, trailblazer, and master of the boys gets appointed as Executive Director of the NNPC Board.

“You have set precedence and demonstrated exemplary leadership traits by delivering service and good leadership to your people, and I am confident that your influence will continue to encourage our proud tradition of hard work and dedication to the country.”

“Even the heavens are rejoicing over this. May God bless the appointing authority,” he said.

Barr. Ledum Mitee is a legal luminary, human rights activist, and former President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP).

He is one of many who shattered the culture of silence on environmental contamination and the impunity of international oil firms in Ogoniland, a tiny cluster of oil-rich villages south of Nigeria.

He escaped execution 25 years ago when activist and playwright Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni leaders who were at the forefront of the campaign were hung by the military regime after being convicted of murder.
