An Ijaw group in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State operating under the auspices of Ijaw Solidarity Mandate (ISM) has advised Itsekiris in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State to stop nursing any ambition under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Chairmanship position of the local Government in the forthcoming Local Government poll in the state.

The Ijaw Solidarity Mandate made the revelation and remark via a press statement signed by Chief Pereotukefie Apena, Chairman ISM, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide yesterday.

Chief Pereotukefie had in the statement urged the Itsekiris to respect the zoning arrangement between the Ijaws and Itsekiris in the Local government, stressing that nothing should be done to alter the existing arrangement.

However, the statement maintained that the fragile peace between the two ethnic groups in the Local government is largely due to this zoning arrangement.

The group had while calling on the Itsekiri political leaders in Warri South West to work closely with the Ijaw PDP Leaders to ensure that a credible Ijaw son emerged as the next Chairman of the Local government had also charged His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State to maintain the zoning arrangement in the Local government.

Speaking further, the statement had warned that anyone that is not an Ijaw from Warri South West has no business in contesting for the Chairmanship position, stressing that the group is addressing the press due to rumours emanating from certain quarters that some Itsekiris are planning to contest for the position.

ISM stressed that the Itsekiris just completed their two consecutive tenures as Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area through the immediate past Chairman, Hon. Taiye Duke Tuoyo hence there is no basis for which they will ever nurse the ambition to contest the Chairmanship position, adding that it is now the turn of the Ijaws to produce the Chairman.
